SF & Co Royal Devon biscuit barrel with lid made in England (stamped with trademark)

This beautifully decorated biscuit barrel has a Chinoise-influenced pattern. Please note that the lid, while being a close match, is not the original and does not fit snug on the base.

The first biscuit barrels appeared in England c.1860 and were very popular through the late 1930s. Beautifully decorated, they were never airtight and weren't designed to be used for storage. They were intended to beautify the table and brought out when serving biscuits at tea time or luncheons.

Due to the nature and age of the piece, it is showing some crazing and minor wear mainly to the handles and rim. In overall very good vintage condition with no chips or cracks.

Measures approx. 18cm h (to top of handle) x 17cm w. The diameter excluding side handles is 14cm.
