The brief for this newly extended living room and play area was to utilise the additional space to its full potential and inject some colour. The owners had a kitchen and dining room refurbishment as part of their build so I wanted to create a flow between the ground floor spaces.

The owners were open to a pop of colour so we introduced a statement chair and cushions in complementary jewel tones. Rattan floor cushions doubled as side tables and fun seating for the children. Adding indoor plants and nature inspired accessories, provided a link between the view of the garden and the indoors. The hexagonal wall shelving in the play area mirrored the kitchen splashback design so although these two rooms had dividing wall, it carried elements of the design throughout the house to create a cohesive space.

The existing L-shaped sofa and shelving units were to be incorporated into the design and a desk area was also essential. Task lighting over the desk and ambient lighting in the living room were included in the design along with artwork chosen by the family.
